Current Course Activities

First I must apologise for the lack of input on my behalf on this site, no excuse offered as there are none. I will however, endeavour to maintain, and update this page regularly and to keep members informed of the greens' staff activities.

We have had an interesting and testing winter with weather conditions and staffing issues to name a couple. Due to the snowy conditions of early January some of the winter projects forecasted were unable to be undertaken. It also put the greens staff some three weeks behind on projects already started such as the 8th pond area and the new 5th pathway. The inclement weather did allow my staff to undertake the routine servicing of the course machinery ahead of schedule.

The winter projects got off to a great start in October with the loan of a 15 ton excavator courtesy of Brian Lewis Jones, which allowed us to start digging the new 8th pond and the clearing out of the existing ponds on the course.  The warm dry weather of October was a great help to us, course disruption was kept to a minimum. This was all to end on the last days of the dig when the heavens opened and signalled the start of winter and our problems. Unable to return to the site we started on some of the other projects planned such as the 1st& 5th tee pathways, winter pathway to the 8th teeing area, tree clearing and pruning and the installation of new pop-up sprinklers on all the greens.

Most of these projects are nearing completion except the popup installations which will take some time yet, we hope to have them all installed by the start of the playing season. We need to spend some time on  course housekeeping and finalising the projects ready for the season.

Hopefully soon we will see a change in the weather and temperatures rising. Looking forward to new season and a successful year at Rhuddlan.
